It feels weird to finish the album with Smooth Criminal though, leave me alone is such a nice closing track

    Exactly.

The upcomming 15 track / 2LP Set of HIStory will offer much superior sound than the original 30 track / 3LP set did. The songs on the 1995 release - with exception of its side F - were squeezed together. Anyway, imo the best release of HIStory so far is the digital 24/96 version. Only downside of it is the lack of the original mixes of TDCAU & HIStory.

But picture discs tend to have lesser quality so the original box set might still be the best one

It'll actually have less compression but you have to live with a higher noise floor.

I like my US HIStory 3LP set with the enormous book. I also do not trust Sony's current sound engineers.

"Because we do not know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens a certain number of times, and a very small number, really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that is so deeply a part of your being that you can't even concieve of your life without it? Perhaps four or five times more. Perhaps not even that. How many times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless." - Brandon Lee
